The speed of light is a constant

Government
The modern nation state is a movement away from government that makes decisions based on prejudice. Science is the rule for order even in religious affairs when there is a measure for public concern.
The Prussian empire was called German in a movement away from the Roman indulgence of money and status as the determinant for justice.
Roman jurisprudence allowed monetary fines as contributions to the Church in cases where a homicide was not judged to be a crime. If the killer declared that the killing was not done with malice, he could make a contribution to the church to expiate his fault in the matter.
Modern nation states allow that killing can be defined as the crime of murder even in cases where "malice" is not evident as the motive for the homicide. Killing is only allowed by law when it is done in defense against an imminent attack with lethal force.
Physics
Michelson was a physicist. Stoicism had been associated with physics from ancient times in Greece. Stoicism was against the Epicurean position of finding happiness with any level of material attainment. It supported a 'results only' oriented achievement that tolerated cruelty in punishment or violence in aggression.
Stoicism
Stoics did not oppose the notion that the victor determines the spoils. The opinion that George H. W. Bush should have taken Baghdad after the invasion of Kuwait was Stoic. It was believed that it would have been a warranted punishment for the invasion.
The US president chose to direct the military to drive the Iraqi army out of the kingdom. Economic sanctions were also imposed.
Modern scientific method has sought to establish experiment as the basis for the determination for objective judgment.
Speed of Light
Michelson established a method for testing the speed of light with the use of mirrors. Mirros were also used to rule out the existence of ether in space. He did not have a religious affiliation, but his method would have been valid as a means for testing irrespective of his belief in a religion. Math was used as a means to measure physical phenomena in physics.

Strzelno is now located northeast from the center of Poland. The meaning roughly translates as ‘don’t shoot.’ The major landmarks for the location are churches. The 2005 census found a population of less than 12,500.
The establishment of the city is connected with the duke of Lesser Poland, Peter Wlast (1080-1153). He was a duke for Boleslaw III Wrymouth (1086-1138). Boleslaw was a king insofar as he was the leading duke for the area.
Boleslaw based his foreign policy on maintaining good relations with neighboring Hungary and Kievan Rus. He strengthened links with marriage and military cooperation to break dependence upon Germany and Bohemia. Victory in battle was viewed as a justification to build Churches.
Henry IV became King of the Germans in 1056. He was also called the King of the Romans and Holy Roman Emperor until his forced abdication in 1105. The authority for his reign was challenged by the Investiture Controversy with the Papacy.
This was a dispute over who had the authority to invest bishops and officials with public authority. Henry was excommunicated 5 times by 3 different popes. Civil wars took place in both Italy and Germany during his reign.
A Norbertine nuns convent was founded in the eighties of the 12th century in Strzelno. The monastery church was originally called the Church of the Holy Trinity. It is well preserved.
Norbert (1080-1134) was from Xanten near the Rhineland in Germany. He was a friend of Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153). He was influenced by the Cistercian ideal for the manner of life and the government of the order.
The Premonstratesians in the order are not monks. They are Canons Regular. Their work often involves preaching and the exercising of pastoral ministry. They frequently serve in parishes close to their abbeys or priories.
Peter Wlast was a ruler of part of Silesia in Poland. He is regarded as the founder of the Church of the Cross. Another Church was built for St. Procopius. It is a well preserved construct.
Prussia
Prussia was a part of Germany that included Poland. The House of Hohenzollern ruled Prussia for centuries. This house was characterized by respect for the defensibility of the castle built on the highest hill. The realm expanded in size by way of an unusually well-organized and effective army.
The capital was in Konigsberg until 1701. It was moved to Berlin. German states that excluded Austria united to create the German empire under Prussian leadership in 1871. The word 'German' was used to include Protestants and Catholics as Christians.
Prussians had a well organized military with respect for solid construction in castles and churches.
Albert A. Michelson
Albert Abraham Michelson was born in Strzelno on December 19, 1852. Strzelno was a province of Posen in Germany at the time. It is part of Poland currently. Albert was the son of Samuel Michelson and his wife, Rozalia. Both were of Jewish descent.
The family moved to the US in 1855 when Albert was two. He grew up in mining towns where his father worked as a merchant.
Murphy's Camp was located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. They started there, but moved to Virginia City in Nevada. His family was Jewish by birth, but non-religious. He was an agnostic. He spent his high school years in San Francisco in the home of his aunt, Henriette Levy (nee Michelson).
Albert was awarded a special appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy by President Ulysses S. Grant. He excelled in optics, heat, climatology and graphics. He graduated in 1873 and spent 2 years at sea.
He returned to the Naval Academy in 1875 to become an instructor in physics and chemistry. He moved to the Nautical Almanac Office in Washington DC in 1879. The office cataloged positions for the US Naval Observatory. It was one of the first scientific offices in the country.
He started his work with Simon Newcomb at the observatory. Newcomb had started plans for a new and precise measurement for the speed of light. It was needed as a constant to account for exact values in astronomical calculations.
He was working with Leon Foucault when he received a letter from Albert Michelson about creating an experimental basis for the measure of the constant. It was the beginning of a long collaboration and friendship.
Michelson left work with Newcomb to study in Europe in the following year. He went to the Unversities of Berlin and Heidelberg. Then he went to the College de France and Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. His first measurement was published in 1880. It was different from the on found by Newcomb. He revised his measure in 1883 to a value closer to what Newcomb established.
Michelson was fascinated with science. He knew that speed was defined as the ratio of distince in relation to time. He wanted to find a way to define the measure for the speed of light with an experiment. He conducted his first experiment while at Annapolis as part of a class demonstration in 1877.
He refined his Annapolis model. He measured the speed of light in air to be 299,864 km/sec. He estimated the speed in a vacuum to be 299,940 km/sec or 186,380 mi/sec.
He resigned from the Navy in 1881 after two years of study in Europe. He accepted a position as a professor of physics at Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland, Ohio in 1883. He worked on developing an improved interferometer there.
Interferometry measured interference. Light waves could be disrupted by a mirror for example in order to extract information from the interference.
He conducted the famous Michelson-Morley experiment with Edward Morley in 1887. The experiment failed to detect evidence for the existence of the luminiferous ether. The theory that light travels in waves assumes the existence of a medium for transference through empty space.
Ether had a religious association as the undelying immaterial substance for the unity of existence. It wasn't exactly like the "God particle," but it attempted to define the divine nature as a measurable scientific entity.
If such a medium existed, it could be measured when light was deflected by a mirror at a 90 degree angle. The existence of ether was ruled out by the experiment.
He became a professor at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1889. He left to lead the department of physics at the newly organized University of Chicago in 1892.
He married Edna Stanton in 1899. They had a son and three daughters.
Albert Michelson was an American physicist known particularly for his work on the speed of light and for the Michelson-Morley experiment. His work with light helped to enlighten the public about the scientific theory about the entity as a physical phenomenon.
Freedom of religion allows for the existence of a non-religious yet law abiding portion of the public in the modern nation state. An official state religion makes the same allowance. Which is better? There would have to be a scientific measure to test for results. The collection of statistical data would be instrumental. This collection would be suspect given the influence of political influences.
Take the disappearance of the journalist Jamal Khoshiggi for example. The Washington Post claimed that he was murdered and dismembered in the Saudi consulate in Turkey. The Turkish president provided tapes that preceded the disappearance. The Saudi government arrested a number of suspects for the presumed murder.
The story provides an example of a litmus test for public prejudice in presumption. Evidence of a dismembered body was not provided as proof that the disappearance was a murder. Tapes were provided.
Implications against Saudi Arabia as a monarchy with an outdated form of justice in their legal system were made. Khoshiggi may have simply grown tired of the liberal advocacy of the Washington Post. He may have sought asylum in Saudi Arabia through their embassy in Turkey. The cover story for the event however seems to be orchestrated towards the promotion of prejudice against Islamic government.
A general trait of Islam from the western perspective is the adoption of classical literature as a basis for philosophy. This was done prior to our Renaissance and the Reformation. It became apparent in time that slavery was an attendant feature for classical culture.
The Muslims didn't allow for slavery as a characteristic of empire until the Ottomans. Both Christian and Muslim missionary efforts went global, but the naval power for Spain allowed for more aggression in expansion.
Insofar as Islam and Christianity teach an Epicurean form of philosophy regarding economic satisfaction, it was violence in aggression and cruelty in punishment that characterized the antithesis for the Epicurean trait.
There are stories about Saudi judges who have made judgments that are regressive with respect for the modern nation state, but there are also stories about American policies that have supported torture and state sponsored terrorism with the precipitation of profit from war by unnamed Congressional sources.
There is an oppositional type of relativity with respect for differences in culture, but the Muslims have parliaments that are similar to the western nations. Their executive leadership has a more conservative cost with respect for hereditary succession in monarchy or indefinite term limits for the chief elected official in republican government though.
The US government is so liberal in expenditure now that even conservatives have adopted a position where they promote liberal policy at a lesser cost.
If we want to be realistic about who is doing better, we might want to think that the US Congress and the British Parliament need to adopt more conservative measures for government expense. More conservative expense translates as more Christian or moral at this point in time.

Philip Dick was an American Science Fiction writer. He had Irish and German ancestors. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago has been dominated by the Democrat Party since some time after the election of Abraham Lincoln.
Alcohol had been prohibited in the USA by the Prohibition that lasted from the 20's to the 30's. Philip was born into this environment.
Many people disagreed with the law. The Bureau of Prohibition was part of the US Department of the Treasury. Eliot Ness, another Chicago citizen, was a lead agent who sought to enforce the national law in the city in which he had been born, raised and educated.
The Democrats in Chicago established a hierarchy in city politics that contrasted the size and seniority of the respective ethnic groups. The Daley machine was an example of the Irish dominance. It took quite a long time to develop the machine, but it was in evidence from the 1960's until it was taken over by another group.
The philosophy that Philip Dick expressed in his writing was Platonic. His characters explored freedom in relation to organization in future settings. He denied that there was a world when he started writing his fiction.
The term the "world" often refers to the reality that is created by social, business and political organization. The physical environment is part of the world, but the "reality" of human perception can be so subjective that it denies the factual functions of physical phenonmena. Human experience seeks to come to terms with freedom in relation to the reality of natural and political law.
Chicago
The name "Chicago" is derived from a French rendering of the indigenous Miami-Illinois word shikaakwa. The word identifies a wild relative of the onion. It is known to botanists as Allium tricoccum and more commonly as ramps.
The first known reference to the site of the current city of Chicago as "Checagou" was by Robert de LaSalle around 1679 in a memoir. Henri Joutel noted that the eponymous wild "garlic" grew abundantly in the area in his journal from 1688.
Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States. It had a population of 2,716,450 as of the 2017 census-estimate. The size of the population makes it the most populous city in both the state of Illinois and the Midwestern United States. It is located on the shores of Lake Michigan.
It was incorporated as a city in 1837 near a portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River watershed and grew rapidly in the mid-nineteenth century. It is the largest transportation center for the northern part of the country.
Chicago is an international hub for finance, commerce, industry, technology, telecommunications and transportation. It was the site of the creation of the first standardized futures contracts at the Chicago
Board of Trade.
A futures contract is more colloquially known simply as "futures." It is a standardized legal agreement to buy or sell something at a predetermined price at a specified time in the future between parties not known to each other.
Chicago has the largest and most diverse derivatives market in the world. It generates 20% of all volume in commodities and financial futures. O'Hare International Airport is the one of the busiest airports in the world. The region also has the largest number of U.S. highways and railroad freight.
The political environment in Chicago in the 1910's and 1920's let organized crime flourish to the point that there were Chicago policemen that earned more money from pay-offs than from the city. The Democrat Party in Chicago was divided along ethnic lines before the 1930's. The Irish, Polish, Italian, African and other groups each controlled politics in their neighborhoods.
There was a race riot in 1919. The riot was a major racial conflict that resulted in violence. It began in Chicago, Illinois, on July 27, 1919. It ended on August 3. Thirty-eight people died during the violence. Twenty three were black and fifteen white. Over five hundred were injured.
It is considered the worst of the approximately 25 riots during the Red Summer after World War I. The summer was so named because of the violence and fatalities across the nation. The combination of prolonged arson, looting and murder made it the worst race riot in the history of Illinois.
The sociopolitical atmosphere of Chicago was one of ethnic tension caused by competition among many new groups. Thousands of African Americans from the South had settled next to neighborhoods of European immigrants on Chicago's South Side in the Great Migration that started in 1916. They had moved to be near jobs in the stockyards and meatpacking plants.
The Irish had been established first. They fiercely defended their territory and political power against all newcomers. Post World War I tensions caused frictions between the races, especially in the competitive labor and housing markets.
Overcrowding and increased militancy by veterans contributed to the visible racial frictions. A combination of ethnic gangs and police neglect strained the racial relationships.
The turmoil came to a boil after the death of an African-American youth according to official reports. The youth had accidentally drifted into a swimming area at an unofficially segregated beach. Tensions between groups arose in a melee that blew up into days of unrest.
Chicago did not segregate most public accommodations. The city was unlike some southern cities at the time. Pre-1915 Chicago had a good reputation for equitable treatment of African Americans according to Walter Francis White of the NAACP.
Early 20th-century Chicago beaches were segregated unofficially. The competition for low-end jobs between Irish and African Americans caused tension between the groups. Lack of regard for education was a major issue.
The Black Sox scandal also took place in 1919. Eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money from a gambling syndicate.
Judge Landis permanently banned all eight men from professional baseball despite acquittals in a public trial. Landis was appointed the first Commisioner of Baseball.
Philip Dick
Philip Kindred Dick and his twin sister, Jane Charlotte, were born six weeks prematurely on December 16, 1928 in Chicago. They were born to Dorothy (née Kindred; 1900–1978) and Joseph Edgar Dick (1899–1985). Joseph worked for the United States Department of Agriculture. Philip's paternal grandparents were Irish.
The death of Jane came six weeks after her birth on January 26, 1929. The loss of his twin profoundly affected Philip's life. He would adopt a recurrent motif about the "phantom twin" in his books.
His family later moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. His father was transferred to Reno, Nevada when Philip was five. Dorothy refused to move. She and Joseph divorced. Both parents fought for custody of Philip. Custody was awarded to the mother.
Dorothy was determined to raise Philip alone. She took a job in Washington, D.C. and moved there with her son. Philip was enrolled at John Eaton Elementary School (1936–1938) where he completed the second through fourth grades. His lowest grade was a "C" in Written Composition. The teacher remarked that he "shows interest and ability in story telling".
Dorothy and Philip returned to California in June 1938. He was educated in Quaker schools. It was around this time that he became interested in science fiction. Dick stated that he read his first science fiction magazine, Stirring Science Stories, in 1940 at the age of 12.
Dick attended Berkeley High School in Berkeley, California. He and fellow science fiction author Ursula K. Le Guin were members of the same graduating class (1947) but did not know each other at the time.
He briefly attended the University of California, Berkeley, after graduation. He only attended from September 1949 to November 11, 1949, but was granted an honorable dismissal on January 1, 1950.
Dick did not declare a major. He took classes in history, psychology, philosophy and zoology.
His study of philosophy led him to believe that existence is based on internal human perception. The perception does not necessarily correspond to external reality. He described himself as "an acosmic panentheist." The universe existed only as an extension of God.
He read the works of Plato and pondered the possibilities of metaphysical realms. He came to the conclusion that the world is not entirely real. There is no way to confirm whether it is truly there.
This question from his early study persisted as a theme in many of his novels. Dick dropped out because of ongoing anxiety problems according to his third wife Anne's memoir. She also says he disliked the mandatory ROTC training at Berkeley.
Philip K. Dick was an American writer known for his work in science fiction. His work explored philosophical, social and political themes with stories dominated by monopolistic corporations, alternative universes, authoritarian governments and altered states of consciousness.
His writing reflected his interest in metaphysics and theology. He often drew upon his experience of life in addressing the nature of reality, identity, drug abuse, schizophrenia and transcendental experiences.
He began publishing science fiction stories in the 1950's. His stories initially found little commercial success. His 1962 alternative history novel The Man in the High Castle earned Dick early acclaim.
He received a Hugo Award for Best Novel. He followed with science fiction novels such as Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968) and Ubik (1969).
His 1974 novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for best novel. Dick's work engaged more explicitly with issues of theology, philosophy and the nature of reality following a series of religious experiences in February 1974. Novels such as A Scanner Darkly (1977) and VALIS (1981) were published.
A collection of his non-fiction writing on these themes was published posthumously as The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick (2011). He died at age 53 in 1982 due to complications from a stroke.
Dick's writing produced 44 published novels and approximately 121 short stories. Most of his work appeared in science fiction magazines during his lifetime.
A variety of popular films based on Dick's works have been produced. Blade Runner (1982), Total Recall (1990 and 2012), Minority Report (2002), A Scanner Darkly (2006), The Adjustment Bureau (2011) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) were adapted from his novels.
Time named Ubik one of the hundred greatest English-language novels published since 1923 in 2005. Dick became the first science fiction writer to be included in The Library of America series in 2007.

Jennifer Beals
Jennifer Beals was born on December 19, 1963 in the south side of Chicago. She was the daughter of Jeanne (née Anderson), an elementary school teacher, and Alfred Beals, who owned grocery stores. Beals' father was black and her mother is Irish-American. She has two brothers, Bobby and Gregory.
Her father died when she was 10 years old. Her mother married Edward Cohen in 1981. Beals has said her biracial heritage had some effect on her. She "always lived sort of on the outside", with an idea "of being the other in society".
She got her first job at age 13 at an ice cream store. She used her height at the time to convince her boss that she was 16. She is now 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m).
Beals was inspired to become an actress by two events. She worked on a high school production of Fiddler on the Roof. She saw Balm in Gilead with Joan Allen while volunteer-ushering at the Steppenwolf Theatre.
Beals graduated from the progressive Francis W. Parker School. She also was chosen to attend the elite Goodman Theatre Young People's Drama Workshop. Beals went to Yale University. She received a B.A. in American Literature in 1987. One term was deferred a term to film Flashdance. She was a resident of Morse College while at Yale.
Jennifer is an American actress and a former teen model. She made her film debut in 1980's My Bodyguard before receiving critical acclaim for her role in Flashdance (1983) She won the NAACP Image Award for an Actress and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for the second film.
Beals appeared in several notable films including Devil in a Blue Dress (1995), The Last Days of Disco (1998), Roger Dodger (2002), The Book of Eli (2010) and Before I Fall (2017).
She starred as Bette Porter on the Showtime drama series The L Word (2004-2009). She later went on to star in the series The Chicago Code (2011), Proof (2015) and Taken (2017).

Hamamatsu
Hamamatsu is located in western Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
The Shijimizuka site shell mound and the Akamonue Kofun ancient tomb show that the city has been settled since prehistoric times.
Hamamatsu is a coastal city located 260 kilometres (160 mi) southwest of Tokyo.
The foundation for the location consists of a flat plain and the Mikatahara Plateau in the south and a mountainous area in the north. It is roughly bordered by Lake Hamana to the west, the Tenryū River to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
There is a climatic difference within the same city. Southern Hamamatsu has a humid subtropical climate with cool to mild winters with little snowfall. It is windy in winter because of the dry monsoon called Enshū no Karakaze. This wind is unique to the region.
The climate in northern Hamamatsu is harsher because of foehn winds. These winds come down off the mountain range. Summer is hot. The highest temperature often exceeds 35 degrees C in the Tenryu-ku area. This part of the city has snow in winter.
Onoda Saori
Onoda Saori was born on December 17, 2001 in Shizuoka, Japan.
Saorin is a Japanese pop singer in Hello! Project. She is a member of Tsubaki Factory. She was a member of Princess♪Ribbon. She joined Hello Pro Kenshuusei in November. She was formally introduced as a member at the November / December recital concert in 2014.
It was announced at Tsubaki Factory's fanclub event that Onoda had joined the group as new member alongside Ono Mizuho and Akiyama Mao on August 13, 2016.
